Colin Howe has been in the Training and HR area for 12 years and has worked in national and international roles. He is the co-author of Diary of a Team and author of several articles for publications such as Executive Excellence.
HOW AND WHY DO YOU USE THE CCS?
I find that the CCS gives me a lot more flexibility to take individuals and groups where I need them to go. It is also amazingly useful to help people interpret and re-iterate their learning in training programs.
Generally I introduce the CCS during the introductions phase of a session. I either give them a series of questions to select a card to represent or have them "pick a card, any card" from the Jumbo pack.
The key questions I want answered are: How does this represent you? and How does this represent what you want to get out of today?
I then do the same at the end of the day to help them identify what they actually learnt during the program.
There has been a measurable increase in "this program has provided me with beneficial skills for my work" since using the CCS to help participants identify what they have achieved.
I have used the CCS in Occupational Health and Safety training, outplacement and career management programs, management skills and it works well with any crowd and in any situation.
